Introducing the 2024 Beyond Service Awards

The King's Trust Australia is honouring Australian Defence Force veteran and family entrepreneurs through the Beyond Service Awards.

2024 Award Categories

RISING STAR AWARD
The Rising Star Award recognises the outstanding entrepreneurial efforts of a veteran or Australian Defence Force partner aged 35 or under. This award is supported by Worldwide Support for Development.

COMMUNITY IMPACT award
The Community Impact Award recognises a veteran or Australian Defence Force partner making a positive impact in the community and/or contributing to a more sustainable society through business. This Award is supported by the Australian Government Department of Veterans' Affairs.
New Mission Award
The New Mission Award recognises the best application of military skills, experience and/or networks developed in service to the Australian Defence Force and applied to civilian business(es). This award is sponsored by Saab Australia.

The Defence Family Business Award recognises the outstanding efforts of an Australian Defence Force partner or spouses in business. This Award is sponsored by Adecco Australia.
The Commonwealth Bank Business of the Year Award is not open for public nomination. Only finalists of the above award categories are eligible for this award.

Nominations for the 2024 Beyond Service Awards are now closed and finalists have been announced.

Award winners will be announced in person at the Beyond Service Awards in October 2024.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for an award, the individual or organization must satisfy all the eligibility requirements for each category, as outlined below. For comprehensive eligibility criteria and definitions, please refer to the Terms and Conditions.

  1. The Rising Star Award

Open to non-employing businesses (sole traders, companies, trusts, and partnerships without employees), micro-, small and medium businesses, and public sector organisations owned or operated by a person 35 years of age or under.

To be eligible for this award, the applicant must also meet all of the following criteria:

  • be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia  
  • be 18 years of age or over
  • be 35 years of age or under during the nomination period
  • own or operate an eligible business outlined above
  • have served at least one day of full time service in the Australian Defence Force, or must be a de facto partner, in a registered relationship with, or legally married spouse of a current or former serving Australian Defence Force member.

  1. The New Mission Award

Open to non-employing businesses (sole traders, companies, trusts, and partnerships without employees), micro-, small and medium businesses, and public sector organisations.

To be eligible for this award, the applicant must also meet all of the following criteria:

  • be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia  
  • be 18 years of age or over  
  • Own or operate (solely or jointly) an eligible business outlined above
  • have served at least one day of full time service in the Australian Defence Force.
  1. Community Impact Award

Open to non-employing businesses (sole traders, companies, trusts and partnerships without employees), micro-, small and medium businesses, and public sector organisations.

To be eligible for this award, the applicant must also meet all of the following criteria:

  • be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia  
  • be 18 years of age or over  
  • Own or operate (solely or jointly) an eligible business outlined above
  • have served at least one day of full time service in the Australian Defence Force, or must be a de facto partner, in a registered relationship with, or legally married spouse of a current or former serving Australian Defence Force member (who has served at least one day of full time service in the Australian Defence Force).

  1. Defence Family Business of the Year Award

Open to non-employing businesses (sole traders, companies, trusts and partnerships without employees), micro-, small and medium businesses, and public sector organisations.

To be eligible for this award, the applicant must also meet all of the following criteria:

  • be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia  
  • be 18 years of age or over  
  • Own or operate an eligible business outlined above (solely or jointly)
  • Must be a de facto partner, in a registered relationship with, or legally married spouse of a current or former serving Australian Defence Force member (who has served at least one day of full time service in the Australian Defence Force).
  1. Business of the Year Award

This category is not open to public nomination. The winner will be selected by the judging panel from the pool of winners from all Beyond Service Awards categories.
